I know, I know.
The Official Party Line is,
” This long drawn out race between Obama and Clinton is a good thing, isn’t it wonderful so many Democrats are participating in the process? “
Here’s my answer:
No.
This is the reason why.
First of all I won’t use ” Participating in the Process ” line here because it puts this issue on a grand scale and if we talk in generalities we remove ourselves from the situation.
So I want to tell you what this ” in it to win it ” mentality is doing on a local level- in a way I want to ‘bring this question home’.
I’ve seen friends stabbing each other in the back over their candidates, I was made aware of a delegate stunt by people I know and trust ( where Clinton Supporters switched to Obama and I’m guessing the idea was if they got through to the Convention they would have switched back again ). I’ve been told by my women friends that I’m an ungrateful woman who doesn’t realize that I owe my support to Hillary Clinton because, ” of what Hillary and women like her have done for people like me-
For me the greatest worry over this campaign happened when women writers that I’m friends with insisted it was alright for other writers or journalist to be censored or fired or punished for saying ” mean things about Hillary.”
These writers were willing to forfeit not only my right to write and speak my mind but anyone else who does not agree with them.
We’re talking about WRITERS here.
Those are people who know exactly how dangerous that sort of thinking is.
Need I point out that by Christmas there will be Christmas Card lists that will be noticeably shorter then before this ” healthy debate” started.
I want this thing over with for no other reason then I’m sure one candidate is being indulged over the other and the cost of this indulgence has become to high.
It’s involved real people who used to be friends and in all probability will never speak to each other again.
That is the cost.
And no one single person and what they feel entitled too is worth that price.
